Ivy St. Guest speaker Alicia Jrapko is a Bay Area human rights activist who was born in Argentina and left during the brutal military dictatorship of the seventies. She has been working to change U.S. policy toward Cuba and is a member of the International Committee for Freedom for the Cuban Five, who for more than ten years have been political prisoners in the U.S.. We’ll also be joined by Nita Palmer, a solidarity and social justice activist from Vancouver, B.C. Nita is active with Free the Cuban Five Committee – Vancouver, and writes for the internationally distributed newspaper, Fire this Time. If you’re a serious hiker in Oregon, you’ve probably heard his name or read one of his novels. His famous hand drawn maps might have guided you back to the trailhead from a distant wilderness vista. Sullivan will present on his experiences hiking every public trail in Oregon and reveal the recreation secrets in Oregon’s newest Wilderness areas. Roots Organic Brewery. July 15-16: Newport, Yachats, 7:00 p.m. Anne Feeney Hits the Road for Health Care. With a little help from her friends, Anne Feeney, award-winning singer/songwriter and labor agitator, is raising hell this summer for Single Payer National Health Care with a marathon tour throughout California, Oregon, and Washington, bringing her “Sing Out for Single Payer Road Show” to the Central Oregon Coast in mid-July. Many popular musicians have signed up to join the Road Show, including draftees from the Oregon Country Fair. Feeney and friends will entertain the crowd with musical satire, acoustic guitar and sing-alongs. Feeney’s “Sing Out for Single Payer Road Show” starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, at Cafe Mundo, 711 NW 2nd Ct. in Newport’s Nye Beach area. Come early to enjoy fresh local food prepared by Chef Laurie Card while you take in the Show. On Thursday, July 16, Feeney brings her show to the popular Green Salmon Fair Trade Coffee and Tea House, 220 HWY 101 N. in Yachats. Doors open at 6 p.m. for coffee and socializing (bring snack food to share), with the performance starting at 7 p.m. Both performances are free, though donations to defray costs and help with the health care cause are gladly accepted.
