New week, new round of updates from the Secretary of State’s office. Let’s get into it.
First up, Oregonians and elections officials are breathing a sigh of relief after the U.S. Supreme Court denied the Trump Administration’s request to let the Post Office restrict mail-in voting for the November election. This decision gives us the certainty we need to run secure, accurate, and fair elections. There was a lot of back and forth, and we know this fight could continue next year, but what you need to know is: Oregon will vote-by-mail this fall. Our election will go forward as it always does.
What you can do right now is: make sure your registration is up to date and make a plan to vote. Ballots will be sent to voters in Oregon starting on October 14th. Oregon voters should plan to return their ballots using a drop box. It is still safe to return your ballot by mail, just mail it back at least seven days before election day.
Next, our office is getting reports about spam text messages and mail scams that are attempting to get voters’ private information by saying there is something wrong with your voter information. Don’t fall for it. If you ever have any questions about your voter registration or ballot, you can check on both by going to our secure website, oregonvotes.gov/myvote, and/or reaching out to your local elections official.

Finally, because we know not everyone gets these newsletters, my team and I put out a new public service announcement on TV about how Oregonians can make sure their votes get counted. This PSA is currently airing on TV and radio stations around the state.

Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read is broadcasting new public service announcements to inform all eligible Oregonians about how to make sure their ballot gets counted this November. The announcements were produced and placed in partnership with the Oregon Association of Broadcasters and television stations across Oregon. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected President Donald Trump’s attempt to restrict mail-in voting ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, blocking changes that would have caused major disruption just days before the first ballots are sent to Oregon voters.
