The United Nations’ International Day of Peace – celebrated every year on September 21 – is a global holiday when individuals, communities, nations and governments highlight efforts to end conflict and promote peace. Established by U.N. resolution in 1982, “Peace Day” has grown to include millions of people around the world who participate in all kinds of events, large and small (www.internationaldayofpeace.org).
In honor of the International Day of Peace, Corvallis will be holding a Peace Fair with music, games, dance, arts and crafts and a parade. The Fair will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 19th at Central Park (Madison Ave & 8th Street) and will conclude with a parade at 4 p.m. Activities will celebrate international cultures, and participants are encouraged to wear native clothing from other countries. This event is free, and open to the public.
The Corvallis Peace Fair is sponsored by the city of Corvallis, and numerous Corvallis clubs and organizations. For more information: peacefair@vfpcorvallis.org or www.vfpcorvallis.org. Φ
